How To Get Moon Off Iphone Contact
Wondering what the half moon or crescent moon icon next to a text message means?
Well, the half moon icon next to your iPhone text message indicates you've muted that particular contact, or enabled the Do Not Disturb mode for that conversation. Apple puts a half moon to identify conversations in that mode. However, this does not mean you won't receive messages in that conversation. This mode will just ensure that you're not notified.
Read through to understand more about the half moon next to your iPhone text message and what it does.
What do the Different Colors of the Half Moon Mean?
The crescent moon icon can appear in two colors. It can either be blue or gray:
- A blue crescent moon icon means that the recipient hasn't opened and read your messages.
- A gray crescent moon icon means that the recipient has opened and read your messages.
Why Do You Need to Enable Do Not Disturb?
Are you constantly getting new messages? Do you want some quiet time without never-ending notifications? Are you part of a group that constantly bombards you with messages that blow up your notifications?
All these are reasons to mute your texts. Just enable the Do Not Disturb or Hide Alerts feature.
How to Enable the Half Moon?
For iPhones with Updates Earlier Than iOS 11
Open a text you'd like to mute and click on the "i" or Details button on the top right corner of your iPhone screen. This will open the Details screen. Now at the bottom, slide the Do Not Disturb option or the Hide Alerts option to turn it on. Once on, it will be highlighted in green.
For iPhones with Updates Later Than iOS 11
Open the conversation and click on the "i" enclosed in a circle or Details on the top right corner or in some versions, you should click on the contact's avatar. Now, move the slider to turn on Hide Alerts.
Swipe Left and Click the Bell
Find the conversation you'd like to mute in your iPhone and simply swipe left without opening it. Click on the bell to mute the conversation.
How to Get Rid of the Half Moon On iPhone Text Message?
It is simple to get rid of the half moon from your text message on your iPhone.
For iPhones with Updates Earlier Than iOS 11
Select the conversation which has a crescent moon icon you'd like to remove. Click on the i enclosed in a circle or the Details button. You will see a Do Not Disturb or Hide Alerts option that you can turn off.
For iPhones with Updates Later Than iOS 11
Follow the same steps as described above. However, you might have to click on the contacr's avatar instead of the "i" or "details". You will find Hide Alerts instead of Do Not Disturb.
Slide the Hide Alerts option to turn it off. If the slider is highlighted in gray, it means that the alerts are still on. If it is highlighted in green, you've turned them off.
Swipe Left and Click the Bell
Alternatively, instead of opening a text, you can just swipe left on the conversation and tap on Show Alerts or the bell icon.
Is There Any Difference Between Hide Alerts and Do Not Disturb?
There is no difference between them. Both perform the same function. Do Not Disturb has just been renamed to Hide Alerts in subsequent iOS updates. The updates have made it easier to enable or disable this feature.
Not to be Confused With The Moon On The Status Bar
The half moon symbol on the status bar of your iPhone also means that you've enabled the Do Not Disturb feature. The difference is that this is for your entire iPhone and not just for a text message conversation. In this mode, you will not receive any type of alert or notification.

In a Nutshell
The half moon or crescent moon icon in your iPhone means that you've turned off notifications. If it is on the status bar, it means you've enabled the Do Not Disturb feature for your entire phone.
If it is present only for a particular text message conversation, it means you've turned off alerts for that specific conversation. The half moon is highlighted in two colors depending on whether the recipient has read your message or not. You can now enable or disable the half moon.
